Monday Roundup: Tall Tales Edition

One of the most unintentionally funny stories of the NFL offseason revolved around the alleged on-field revival of Donte Stallworth….or as Browns fans will remember him as – the guy who barely played in 2008.  Anyway, most of the offseason narrative regarding Stallworth dealt with the sudden resurgence of his skills.  Remember that he was a deep threat seeemingly years ago?  No?

Anyway, let’s play a little game of rewind today…as I cite my killer Nostradamus of the Obvious skills.

From a few weeks ago…   Read the rest of this entry »

The Morning After: Browns-Lions Edition

The unofficial end of the preseason has arrived, with our Browns continuing to add to an August narrative that has been at times intriguing, inspiring and inconclusive.  In fact, the book of the preseason has featured a few distinct chapters….

1.  A Jake Delhomme-led offense has acheived levels of consistency and competence – the likes of which we haven’t seen in several years.

2.  The preseason being the preseason – the Browns as a whole have become a fumble machine.

3.  The defensive front seven – while physically sound – remains unbelievably slow.   Read the rest of this entry »

Browns-Lions Preview

In a football-starved universe - particularly in a place such as Cleveland, Ohio – the third August game of the year takes on a being that completely deflates inane arguments regarding the length of the exhibition season.  After all, what is preseason football for, other than to give us all an opportunity to project greatness – or at least fanciful visions of mediocrity – into the future?

On a more earthly realm, the third preseason game of the year offers two distinct traits.  First, this is the game where the starting units play into the third quarter, which should give us a simulation of how a regular season game will unfold.  Second, there are several players hanging onto the edges of an NFL roster – players who can showcase their skills in the last meaningful preseason game.   Read the rest of this entry »

The Expendables: Browns Edition

On the heels of yesterday’s rumor mongering expose/lecture in Contemporary Journalism, it’s easy to forget that our Browns are mere hours away from parading down the veritable catwalk that is the third preseason game.

Speaking of which, this….

Thursday Best: Rumor Has It Edition

…which highlighted a classic example of Infotainment sprinkled with seeds of Guesswork….actually contains a bit of truth.

First, there will be several current Browns fighting for their NFL existence Saturday night.

Of course, Colt McCoy will not be one of them.   Read the rest of this entry »

Thursday Best: Rumor Has It Edition

Today, I thought it would be fun to have a little lesson in Journalism.  But then again, as a blogger, I am completely unqualified to do such a thing.  So, instead – how about we just deconstruct the origin of a legitimate news story?

Same thing, really.

So our tale begins with this innocuous little comment made by our own Papa Bear himself….  Read the rest of this entry »

The New Look Cavaliers

The following is the latest from Reboot contributor Brian Heise….

There’s no doubt that the Cavaliers will fall back to the pack this coming season thanks to a certain someone and many debate whether or not they have the talent to actually make the playoffs in the newly revamped eastern conference.  One thing we do know is that the Cavaliers will look dramatically different next season.    Read the rest of this entry »

2010 Mid-Preseason Awards

It’s about that time.  After two preseason games, we know everything there is to know regarding our Browns.  Right?  What more is to be told regarding the narrative that is the 2010 season?

Outside of another downpour – or a hail of interceptions, that is…

In fact, I am so convinced that we have arrived at a safe point of the season that I strongly feel that we take advantage of this opportunity and hand out some hardware.  Lucky for me, I was able to put together this banquet of specu-tainment on short notice.

So without further adieu….

Biggest Sigh of Relief

Jake Delhomme

I know we’re only dealing with tiny parts of two preseason games, but compared to this time last year – or even from a few months ago, it appears that a temporary bit of relief has been delivered to the QB position in the form of a consistent Delhomme.

And aren’t many of you more than a bit relieved by this news?   Read the rest of this entry »

Two Afternoons After: Browns-Rams Edition

Now that we’ve all had a chance to dry off, let’s take the opportunity to review some of our speculative guesswork.  And speaking of “all wet”…

Let’s go to the scorecard.

1.  Let’s get all hot-button out of the gates…will Jake Delhomme play more than one series tonight?  And for a related question, will the unraveling of his mystique coincide with an increase in playing time?

Yes and kind of, but not really.  Read the rest of this entry »

Ten Events of Happenstance: Browns-Rams Edition

Before the memories of last night’s game tumble away – or are dropped in a watery pool of regret – let’s take a quick look at what just happened.  I’ll have much more in the coming hours and days, but for now – I’m about to unleash my inner Peter King.

Get ready for a numbered list – some easy Sunday morning reading for all.   Read the rest of this entry »

Browns-Rams Preview

What is with all this talk about the meaningless of preseason games?  In the case of our Browns, last week’s preseason opener began an upswing of momentum that could vault the team into the pivotal third week ”dress rehearsal” matchup.

And based on last week’s first half, playing a brand of entertaining football is something the likes of Browns Nation have gone without for far too long.

In that sense – let’s extend the preseason by another month or so.

But in the meantime, bring on the Rams.    Read the rest of this entry »
