Tuesday Roundup: Crime, Punishment and Stupid Polls Edition
This just hasn’t been the best of weeks to be a Browns defensive back. After Brandon McDonald’s controversial scrimmage endzone flip, followed by the revelations of his past Twitter usage, both of which surely drew a reprimand from Eric Mangini – reserve corner Gerard Lawson has now contributed to the summer festivities.
Browns coach Eric Mangini met with Lawson and said they had a “good conversation.” Mangini did not say if Lawson apologized. Read the rest of this entry »
Worst Week Ever: Brandon McDonald Edition
The Browns’ first inter-squad scrimmage of the season has came and went. Among the highlights was an impressive defensive showing – or was it an offense still trying to figure out where all the moving parts are supposed to go?
Either way, it’s rather obvious at this point on the calendar that the Browns desperately need their young wideouts to emerge in 2010. Considering the tenuous nature of Jake Delhomme’s attempted career revitalization plan (but again, he’s still a far better option than last year’s starters), this offense simply can’t sustain itself with another year of pre-historic passing.
But I digress…after all, we still have four preseason games to debate the merits of the quarterbacks. Can you feel the excitement?
And speaking of headlines – of the future sort – at least one Browns’ player made an impact over the weekend. Read the rest of this entry »
The Not So Invisible 70’s
The following is a special from Reboot reader, Keith Vlasak.
The 1960’s Browns ran a little bit into the 1970’s. The Browns were still pretty good, that is — and maybe benefited from the switch to the AFC, too. So, for discussion’s sake, I’m sort of starting the 70’s decade with the loss to the undefeated Miami Dolphins 14-20 at the end of the 1972 season. Why? The Browns lost by 6 points against the only NFL team to go unbeaten and untied through the entire season and playoffs … and Mike Phipps threw 5 interceptions in the game, including one in the closing minutes when the Browns were driving.
Do you know who the Browns took with their first pick in the 1970 draft (with the pick they got in trade for Paul Warfield)? Mike Phipps. Do you know who the Steelers drafted with the No. 1 overall pick in the 1970 draft? Terry Bradshaw. Read the rest of this entry »
Fun With Real Audio: Saturday Edition
As always, a lot of words are coming out of Berea. And with them, perhaps even a few clues regarding the fortunes of our Browns in 2010.
But, again – a lot of words - first, with pictures.

And again, without….

As a certified Coachspeak linguist, allow me to translate the preceding into plain English. Or, if that doesn’t work – I’ll just make it up.

Friday Roundup: The Week That Was
One week of Browns’ training camp is in the books – more or less – and perhaps the greatest lesson we can take from the first several days is that the core of the team is still standing. While this year’s camp lacks the intrigue of the past several versions – meaning there haven’t been any career-ending injuries, pseudo-diva antics or anything more than manufactured drama – so far the 2010 season has produced a most-welcome sort of drama-free stability.
Again – for the most part… Read the rest of this entry »
The Fit
The more we learn about our 2010 Browns, the more it appears that we could be facing another long year of rebuilding. While some signs of progress are evident – think of last season’s four-game win streak, a strong rushing attack, young offensive line, a volume of linebackers and some promising draft picks, the outlook for 2010 is still a bit depressing.
At least compared to the rest of the AFC North – remember that 1-5 mark a season ago? – the Browns still have some work to do.
Cleveland Reboot 2010 AFC North Preview
But, it’s not like the Browns are not getting better as both a team and franchise. In terms of overall direction, the Browns are heading upward – however difficult that may to be gauge throughout the year.
Reboot reader Hamfist offers perhaps another sign of progress – one that could prove very satisfying – for a team that will struggle to win six or seven games. Read the rest of this entry »
Cleveland Reboot 2010 AFC North Preview
With training camp now in full swing, I thought we would take a break from the Browns and all the asundry controversy wreaking havoc on Berea. Wait – I mean love affair with one Mike Holmgren. Did you know he’s actually going to play quarterback this coming season….and coach? Anyway, let’s focus on the other teams in the AFC North….because clearly no one is talking about them. Tuesday Roundup: Camp Stories Edition
Browns’ training camp is in full swing and the key word being bandied about Berea is “optimism”….or should that be phrased into a question? So far, two days have passed - and there have been no signs of any stretchers, semi-automatics or staph infections to be found.
So far, so good…and maybe even better than we realized….
PD – Browns’ Rookies Getting Opportunities With First Team
The only rookies currently working with the first team are safety T.J. Ward and guard Shawn Lauvao. Lauvao is the indirect beneficiary of Tony Pashos’ time on the sideline with cold symptoms. Floyd Womack has moved over to Pashos’ right tackle spot, giving Lauvao the spot at right guard. Read the rest of this entry »
Monday Coachspeak
From both the Fun With Real Audio files and the Ministry of Spin, comes Eric Mangini’s first training camp press conference…which means the following:
1. Not a whole lot will be revealed.
2. What is revealed will be spun into some flimsy bit of innuendo.
So….before Mangini’s words are butchered around town, let’s take a look at what he actually said. Read the rest of this entry »
The Decision – Part 2
Let’s take the opportunity to welcome Brian Heise to Cleveland Reboot. Brian’s takes on Cleveland sports will focus on the “other” teams in the city….the ones I don’t have the attention span for.

The 2010-2011 NBA season is still a long way away but since the defection of “The One Who Shall Not Be Named” to Miami the biggest question has been whether or not the Cavs should reload and make a run at a title, or blow it up and rebuild. From what I can tell, Cavs fans side one way or the other with no in between.
But which approach is best?
In order to figure this out we need to look at the Cavs current roster situation and how to best utilize the current pieces. Let me be the first to say that in trying to write this article I have looked at the Cavs’ roster from every angle. In all honesty, I’m glad I’m not Chris Grant right now.
